The Maven Gypsy B&B
The Maven Gypsy Bed & Breakfast and Cottages is an excellent base camp for exploring all Cape Breton Island has to offer. We are the last stop before Cape Smokey and a skip and a jump from the Highlands National Park.
The Maven Gypsy is located at Wreck Cove.
It is three minutes from a cobble beach on the Cabot Trail. The Maven Gypsy property consists of a main house with four guest rooms overlooking the sea and four cottages which are nestled at the base of a mountain behind the house. From the house guests can watch the ferry sail to Newfoundland and the lobster fishers set and pull their traps. Various restaurants can be found within 9 km from the property.
The Main House
The Maven Gypsy has been welcoming guests since May 2003. It offers four quaint rooms each of which has a private bathroom. We offer a variety of breakfast options, fresh baked goods and home cooked food. Our chickens may very well greet you upon your arrival! Room descriptions further down the page.

Located on the second floor of the farmhouse at its northeast corner this room boasts an obstructed view of the ocean. It has a queen bed as well as a twin bed in a private alcove which is separated by a half wall. The room has three windows as well a window in the bathroom. In addition to its private 3 piece ensuite it has a small desk area overlooking the side yard and chicken coop. Antique furnishings and colorful quilts will take you back in time. It is one of our biggest rooms – perfect for a mother-in-law, teenager or child.
Tucked at the end of the hall and also found on the second floor is our coziest room tucked with two twin beds. It too has a view of the ocean. It has the feel of an attic hideaway. A private bathroom with tub, shower, toilet and sink is a five steps away in the hall. It is our largest bathroom added only three years ago.
The third of three bedrooms on the second or top floor of this grand old house, this room features a private three piece bathroom with a window overlooking the woods in the back of the house, a window overlooking the ocean as well as two windows which frame the forest and old gambrel barn where once the traveling doctors and their horses found respite for the night. It too has a queen bed. A big cozy armchair and foot rest provide a relaxing retreat after a busy day of touring the Cabot Trail. This is our largest room.
On the main floor of the house on the northeast the Quilt Room overlooks the ocean through an old fashioned bay window. View on three sides! A queen bed welcomes you as you step into it. The private bathroom is spacious and bright with daylight. It is also very spacious.
